In order to: -ыш үчүн

In English, we use the word "to" followed by a verb: "I came to help" or "I'm working to buy a car."

In Kyrgyz, purpose is expressed using the postposition үчүн (for / for the sake of), which follows a special form of the verb.

🧠 Logic

To say "in order to do," we need to turn the verb into a noun (a process / action), and then place the word үчүн (for) after it.

In Kyrgyz there are two equally valid ways to form this verbal noun:

Via -ыш	-ыш/-иш/-уш/-үш/-ш	иштеш үчүн	for the sake of working
Via -уу	-уу/-өө/-оо	иштеөө үчүн	for the sake of working

Both variants are grammatically correct and interchangeable. The suffix -ыш originally belongs to the cooperative voice, but in this construction it functions as a verbal noun with the meaning of a process.

🧮 Formula

Option 1: -ыш үчүн

Verb stem + -ыш-иш-уш-үш-ш + үчүн

The suffix is chosen according to vowel harmony:

о, ё, у, ю	-уш	бол → болуш үчүн
ө, ү	-үш	көр → көрүш үчүн

Option 2: -уу/-өө үчүн

Verb stem + -уу-өө-оо + үчүн

Negative form

To say "so as NOT to...", add the negation -ба/-бе/-бо/-бө/-па/-пе before -ш:

💡 Examples

In this construction, the purpose usually comes before the main action.

⚠️ Important notes

Action or thing?

The suffix -ыш/-уу is only needed when the purpose is an action. If the purpose is a thing or a person, just take the word in the nominative case and add үчүн:

"So that I / you do it" — with a possessive suffix

If you need to specify who exactly should perform the action (for example: "I came so that you could rest"), insert a possessive suffix into the -ыш form:
