Words that organize speech flow

In English we constantly drop phrases like "basically", "by the way", "for example", "in short" into our speech. They don't carry the core meaning, but they make speech feel alive, connected, and organized.

In Kyrgyz these words are called байланыш сөздөр (linking words) or киришүү сөздөр (introductory words). Without them your speech will sound like a microwave manual — grammatically correct, but lifeless.

⚠️ Important nuances

1. Position in the sentence

Most introductory words go at the beginning of the sentence, separated by a comma:

  • Кыскасы, мен макул эмесмин. — In short, I don't agree.

But some can appear in the middle:

  • Ал, менимче, туура айтат. — He is, in my opinion, right.

2. Don't confuse with conjunctions

Conjunctions connect parts of a sentence grammatically Introductory words add a shade of meaning, but don't affect the structure.

Compare:

— He came, but left. (conjunction)
— But he came! (introductory word)

3. Common combinations

Some words are often used together:

  • Ооба, албетте! — Yes, of course!
— No, unfortunately.
— To be honest, I don't know.
