Just did it: -ып сал

Emphatic, abrupt, or blunt action

In English, when we want to show that an action was sharp, sudden, or forceful, we reach for words like "just went and blurted it out", "delete the damn thing", "hacked it off".

In Kyrgyz, you don't need to raise your voice. All the emotional punch is carried by one short auxiliary verb — салуу (base form — сал).

🧠 The Logic

In the dictionary, салуу means "to put", "to place inside", "to throw in":

  • акча салуу — to put money into an account
  • туз салуу — to put salt in the soup

But when it attaches to another verb through a gerund, it works as an emotional intensifier. The logic: you take the action and decisively hurl it away.

🧮 The Formula

Pattern: Stem + -ып-ип-уп-үп-п + сал + personal ending

The gerund suffix — by vowel harmony:

  • after a consonant: -ып-ип-уп-үп
  • after a vowel: -п
  • short root ending in «п» → double the vowel: жап → жаап (сал — slam it shut)
