In English, we use the phrase "until" or "not until" when setting a firm condition: "You're not leaving the table until you finish your dinner," "I won't believe it until I see it."
In Kyrgyz, for such uncompromising statements there's a special form — -майынча. It works like an iron barrier: until that action happens, things won't move forward.
🧠 Logic
Look carefully at the English phrase: "I won't believe it until I see it." We use a positive verb in the subordinate clause — "until I see."
Kyrgyz logic works the same way! The form -майынча attaches to a positive verb. Literally, it means: "Right up until the very moment this action happens."

The suffix is chosen according to vowel harmony:

Most often this form is paired with a negation in the second part of the sentence (until you do this, you won't get that).

⚠️ Important notes
Don't add extra negation
Because of the habit of saying "until NOT" in English, learners often try to add a negative suffix -ба/-бе directly into the construction.
🛑 Never say: Көрбөмөйүнчө or Келбемейинче
In a Kyrgyz sentence, negation should appear only once — at the very end (көрмөйүнчө ишенбейм)! The first part always stays affirmative.
Three ways to say "until"
All three forms can be translated similarly into English, but they carry very different energy:
1. Neutral time: -ганга чейин (Before / Until)
Used when you're simply planning around time. No drama.

Сен келгенге чейин, мен тамак жасап коём. — Before you arrive (while you're not here yet), I'll prepare food.
2. Time limit: -ганча (Until / Up until)
You're simply filling the time until an event occurs (a time limit). There's no hard dependence of one action on the other.
Сен келгенче, мен китеп окуп турам. — Until you come, I'll be reading a book.
3. Hard condition: -майынча (Not until...)
Used like an ultimatum. One action firmly blocks another.
Сен келмейинче, мен тамак жасабайм! — Until you come, I'm not making food! (I'll sit here hungry and wait for you.)
