For now / Temporarily: -а тур

Temporary action: wait, hold on, do for now

In English, when we ask someone to do something briefly or while waiting for something else, we add words like "for now" or "for a bit": "Wait for now", "Sit here for a bit", "Read this book for a while".

In Kyrgyz, the auxiliary verb туруу (to stand) is used to express this kind of "temporary" action.

🧠 The Logic

Since туруу means "to stand", you're literally asking someone to "stand in this action" for a while, until the situation changes.

We take the main action, attach a linking vowel, and place the verb тур after it.

🧮 The Formula

Pattern: Stem + linking vowel + тур + personal ending

күтө тур
күт
root "to wait"
ө
linking vowel
тур
auxiliary "to stand"
wait for now

How to choose the vowel? By vowel harmony:

ConditionVowelExample
Consonant (а, я, ы, у, ю)отур → отура тур
Consonant (и, е, э)бил → биле тур
Consonant (о, ё)кой → коё тур
Consonant (ө, ү)күт → күтө тур, көр → көрө тур
Vowelиште → иштей тур, оку → окуй тур

💡 Spelling note: й + о = ё: кой + о = коё тур (not койо тур).

The verb тур handles tense and person. It is most commonly used in the imperative:
